Directory of Women Women's

Professionals Issued

a

Womenskills Directory, guide to services offered by women in the greater Cleveand area, is now available. A community resource, the Directory lists over 200 individuals and companies in over 80 categories, including arts and entertainment, businesses, professions, and skilled trades. Each entry gives the individual or compay name, address, and telephone number, and a description of the services offered.

The Directory was compiled by Jean Hanson and Lois Krebs, who hope it will promote economic networking among women, Hanson said, Men have long had their old-boy' networks; now women are realizing the benefits of working together and helping each other in their businesses."

Hanson, a librarian in the Cuyahoga County Public Library System, is an active member in the Cleveland Heights community. Krebs, an editor with a business information publishing firm, is a volunteer with several local women's organizations,

Hanson and Krebs decided to compile the Directory last summer when a friend moving into a new house wanted most of the necessary work to be done by women but

ran into problems finding female locksmiths, electricians, carpenters, and plumbers. Finding the Yellow Pages gave no clues to womenowned businesses, they turned for help to women's Learning organizations.

these groups had planned to compile a list of women in business, but had not been able to do so, Hanson and Krebs decided to do so them-

selves.

Besides locksmiths and plumbers, the Directory in-

cludes attorneys, physici-

ans, caterers, counselors, landscapers, handcraft makers, and house sitters.

"The response has been exciting," said Krebs. "We got calls from hundreds of women who were very enthusiastic about the project. That's what networking is all about: sharing ideas and lending support.
